I thought it might be fun to play some tunes together. Ideally, we could do this once a month. I’ll supply backing tracks/chord sheets from iReal Pro, but for copyright concerns you get the melody from a Real Book, or learn it by ear!
You can share your MP3 or AAC recording directly, or paste in a 3rd party link from sites such as YouTube, SoundCloud, or Clyp. Use of the backing track is completely optional. It’s 3 choruses (melody in, 1 solo chorus, melody out). Feel free to use an Aebersold, create your own from an app, or even just the melody a cappella, whatever you’re feelin’!
So pick a horn, and Let’s Jam!
Tune: Autumn Leaves
Composer: Joseph Kosma
Lyrics: Jacques Prévert(French), Johnny Mercer(English)
track: 3 choruses, 2 measure count off
found in: HL Real book, 6th ed, p. 39
Autumn Leaves backing track - Gmin
Autumn Leaves backing track - Emin
2 keys are given, because historically it’s been played that way. First in G minor, but later in E minor most likely due to the Real Book.
The falling leaves
Drift by the window
The autumn leaves
Of red and gold
I see your lips
The summer kisses
The sunburned hands
I used to hold
Since you went away
The days grow long
And soon I’ll hear
Old winter’s song
But I miss you most of all
When autumn leaves
Start to fall
adapted from the French song Les Feuilles Mortes
